You need an ethernet cable connection from your desktop or laptop to one of the four ethernet connections at the back of the unit in order to access the firmware settings screen.  To display settings, it uses a series of webpages that run in your browser.  To access the onboard setup pages, type 192.168.2.1 into your browser web address field and press enter.  If the browser tries to make a connection to a previous connection that was installed, switch off auto-connect under the browser's tools, options.  If it still will not connect, do a reset at the back of the unit - press in the reset button for about 20 seconds, release and watch the lights settle down, and try again.  It can take more than a few seconds and attempts to appear.

Most defaults are okay, enter your ISP logon username and password, and any ISP specific settings.  An example here;

• PPPOA
• MTU = 1454 (1458 for BT but can accept lower)
• VPI = 0
• VCI = 38

For wireless WEP, set encryption to 128 bit, make a note of the SET 1 key, the long HEX value.  The SSID is set to Belkin54g by default.

Note, if after saving changes you find it takes forever for the screen to come back, there could be an error in your setup which it will not always report.  At this point, hit the back button, find the error, possibly a value you just changed, and try again.  If changes are accepted, it will return from the "save" screen and you will see your changes have been accepted, not reverted back to default.  When connected, you will see CONNECT in green, top right on the browser window and the globe, the rightmost light on the unit, is lit up and steady.

Network Printers

Connect the printer's ethernet cable to one of the four sockets at the back of the unit and ensure its network address is set to auto or default so the computer can find it.  You should then see it when you "add printer" under Windows.  If your printer software has already been installed, you should not need to reinstall it, just delete the older printer connection and create a new one using the "Add Printer" feaure.  Wireless machines will also see this networked printer and can add to their connection.

There are many ways to combine PCs, laptops and printers to this unit; while the supplied PDF on the CD is covering many options, a PC with ethernet connection to the unit, laptops with wireless connections, and a printer connected to the unit via ethernet cable provides good functional use for a home or small business.
